Trade As A Means to Global Prosperity
|
| A Global Perspective on Business APL Trade Routes |
Cognizant of the importance of a healthy global business environment to APL's own success and to achieving worldwide economic prosperity, the company is involved in many, diverse efforts to promote the understanding of international trade.
Here are just a few examples of how the company's philanthropic resources are being directed in this area:
- The Boomerang Box program is designed to promote the understanding of world trade among young people ranging from kindergartners to high school students.
This unique approach to education began with the "Boomerang Box," a 40-foot container that carries cargo all over the world. More than 150 classrooms now track its journey on an interactive Web site.
The project was recently expanded when APL launched "Boomerang Box Junior," a 20-foot container that was converted into a mobile classroom. The outside of "Junior" is decorated with children's art. Inside, kids learn about trade from interactive displays and "Boomer," a surfing eagle who is the project's mascot and star of a brief video.
"Junior" has already logged thousands of miles traveling to classrooms throughout the United States, and will eventually be sent overseas as part of APL's ongoing commitment to educating young people about international trade.
