Mexico AMS

15 Aug 2007

Dear Valued Customer,

Here is an update on new information reporting requirements for cargo being shipped to Mexico. As you are aware, a 24-hour Rule Advance Manifest (AMS) filing for any cargo in transit or with final destination Mexico will be implemented Sept. 1. The following are the charges which will apply to amendments:

  • In the event carrier is required to correct cargo declaration information previously submitted on the manifest to Mexican Customs due to an error or omission on the part of shipper or its agent; shipper shall pay to the carrier an amendment charge for each submission to the Mexican Customs that must be corrected:
    • US$40 per BL if the amendment is required when the manifest was already submitted to Mexican customs and 48 hrs before the vessel arrival to any Mexican port.
    • US$100 per BL if the amendment is required within 48 hrs and vessel arrival to any Mexican port.
    • US$150 per BL if the amendment is required after vessel arrival and before custom clearance.

The above charges are applicable whether Bill of Lading data was submitted to carrier via electronic data transmission (including but not limited to EDI and web based channels); or submitted to carrier manually, telephonically, via text e-mail, via fax or by other non-electronic method.

We will keep you informed about any change of the application of this rule. If you have questions, please contact your local APL representative.
