Impact of Earthquake on operations in Honduras
29 May 2009
Dear Valued Customer:
A powerful earthquake off the Caribbean coast of Honduras on Thursday, 28 May 2009, resulted in the closure of the country’s main seaport, Puerto Cortes. Water and power to the port had been cut, with damages sustained by some port structures. The port expects to reopen on Friday at about 60% of normal operations.
Damage to roads and bridges in the port vicinity has delayed pick-up of import containers at Puerto Cortes. APL customers affected by the delay have been contacted and will be notified as soon as cargo is available for pick-up. The containers are being stored in a secure location.
APL's next voyage to Honduras is continuing on schedule. Voyage No. 187, the APL San Juan, will arrive at Puerto Cortes on 2 June 2009. All APL staff members are reported safe and the company's operations are only minimally affected by the earthquake.
Please don't hesitate to contact your local customer service or APL representative, if you require further assistance or information.
Yours sincerely.
