Panama Riots Cause Cargo Flow Interruption
24 Oct 2012
On Friday 19 October 2012, the Panama Legislature approved a law that allows privatization of lands in the Colon Free Zone area. Since that announcement, protests against the Government have escalated to civil disturbance, riots and looting during the weekend. Although the Marine Operations at the Manzanillo International Terminal (MIT) is normal, the access road to the terminal is blocked. The Rail and gate operations were suspended as of 4:00am 23 October 2012 until further notice. Hence the cargo flow is interrupted.
APL will remain vigilant to further development and advise as more information becomes available.
