Introducing BB Jr

Students from Camino Pablo Elementary in Moraga, California enter Boomerang Box Jr.

The Boomerang Box Project just got better! The bright blue, 40-foot-long Boomerang Box now has a junior partner. Boomerang Box Jr. is a small version of the Boomerang Box that will travel from school to school to help students learn about trade and transportation.

On the outside, Boomerang Box Jr. looks a lot like the original Boomerang Box. The junior box is 20 feet long, half the size of Boomerang Box, but it’s been painted the same bright blue color. And, just like the original box, Boomerang Box Jr. is decorated all over with postage stamps created by students who have been following the project.

at Franklin Elementary

Students at Camino Pablo Elementary in Moraga, California, Franklin Elementary in Alameda, California, Lowell Middle School in Oakland, California, Maplewood Elementary in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Mount Diablo Elementary in Clayton, California created the new artwork for Boomerang Box Jr. Their art illustrates what they want students around the world to know about their hometowns and schools. In these photos, students in Diana Kenney’s class at Franklin Elementary create postage stamps for the sides of the junior box.

On the inside, Boomerang Box Jr. is completely different from the Boomerang Box. You see, the junior box does not carry cargo. Instead of carrying paper or clothing or almonds from port to port, Boomerang Box Jr. carries a small classroom. When you step inside the junior box, you’ll see exhibits and maps on the walls tracking the journeys of the Boomerang Box. You’ll see art created by students around the world. And you’ll be able to log on to the Boomerang Box web site or watch a slide show about how international trade works.

Boomerang Box Jr. will be kept busy helping students learn more about international trade. Watch for it in your neighborhood!
