The Boomerang Box will soon leave Miami, Florida in the southeastern United States for its Spring Fling mystery voyage.
So, where CAN you go from Miami?
Get out a world map and let's look together. Maybe if we can figure out where the Boomerang Box COULD go from Miami we can narrow down the search… before the Spring Fling clues are even posted!
North
If you look at your map, you will see that to go north from Miami, the Boomerang Box has two choices: it could travel north through the State of Florida over land; or it could travel north by sea along the Atlantic Ocean. Are these two choices possible?
Yes, they are. If you have been following along, you know that travel by land would be easy from Miami. Miami has been connected to the rest of the U.S. by rail since 1896, so the Boomerang Box could travel on a stacktrain. Or, it could travel on a truck on one of Florida's highways.
The Boomerang Box can also travel north by sea from Miami quite easily. APL's North Atlantic shipping service (called ATN) connects Miami with the ports of Charleston and New York before traveling across the Atlantic to Europe.
South
Well, what about south? Could the Boomerang Box travel south from Miami?
Again, the answer is yes. And again there are many options.
Traveling south from Miami will take a ship past the Gulf of Mexico and into the Caribbean Sea. From there, a ship can call on ports in Central America or South America. APL's Central America Express (CAX) shipping service, for instance, travels between Miami, Freeport, Puerto Cortes, and Puerto Barrios. And the Tango (TAN) shipping service travels around the ports of Buenos Aires, Rio Grande, Santos, Rio de Janeiro, Suape, Fortaleza, Philadelphia, New York, Baltimore, Norfolk, Charleston, and Miami. Can you locate these ports on a map?
West
Traveling west from Miami is also pretty easy to do. If the Boomerang Box is on board a truck or train, it can easily travel west across the United States once it reaches north Florida. If it is traveling even further west, it can be loaded on board a ship on the West Coast of the U.S. and travel from there to Asia or Australia.
The Boomerang Box can travel west on a ship from Miami also. Sailing south, the ship could sail around the tip of South America and then west through the Pacific Ocean. Or, it could save time by cutting through the Panama Canal to the Pacific, as the APX (Atlantic-Pacific Express) APL shipping service does.
East
Finally, what about east? Well, again, that's not too hard. In fact, as we've seen above, it is easy for a ship to cross the Atlantic Ocean from Miami to Europe. APL's North Atlantic shipping service (called ATN) connects Miami with the ports of Charleston and New York before traveling across the Atlantic to Europe.
Well, have we succeeded? Do we have any clues about where the Boomerang Box CAN'T go from Miami?
Unfortunately, we don't. Because from what we've learned it doesn't seem that there is ANYHWERE in the world the Boomerang Box can't get to from Miami. That's why Miami is such a major port. It is easy to get almost anywhere in the world from Miami.
Sorry we didn't provide any clues about the Spring Fling. You'll just have to stay tuned and figure it out for yourself!
