Greetings from Oakland, California, U.S.A!

I’m the APL Eagle, and I’ll be your guide as we follow the Boomerang Box — a cargo container painted by students — as it whizzes around the world on ships, trucks, and trains.

What’s a cargo container? Well, just like the name says, a cargo container is a big box. Containers fit on ships and carry goods like apples, tennis shoes or computers from port to port across the ocean. Then, they’re loaded onto trucks or trains to take those goods to their final destinations.

Have you ever watched containers being loaded at a port? You may not have realized it, but almost everything you use every day — your clothes, computer, even your food — arrived at the store in a container.

That’s why containers are so important... and that’s why I’ll be following the Boomerang Box with you.

Why don’t you join me? We’ll visit exciting places, meet new people, and learn a bit about what makes international trade tick.

Follow this site every week as we travel with the Boomerang Box!
