Paige Miller, Seattle’s first female Port Commissioner, is one busy woman. Her job as Port Commissioner for the Port of Seattle has her sitting in on various meetings that influence the welfare of Seattle’s economy and trade. Despite this, she still finds time for her husband and three children.

Ms. Miller was born in Long Island, New York. She attended Smith College, then received a Bachelor's Degree from Brown University and a Law Degree from Yale. Ms. Miller studied and practiced law in Philadelphia and Seattle, then left the practice in 1981. She has been in her current job as Port Commissioner for the last ten years.

Her job allows her to have a major impact on a wide variety of issues, including the third runway proposal for Sea-Tac airport. Trade with China is another issue she is fond of, for she has a personal interest in that country, which she has visited ten times. She is very excited about our growing trade relations with China, and hopes that it will bring about more freedom of personal expression there.

At the present time, however, one of the major issues she has to address, with her three other fellow commissioners, is the selection of the successor for former Port Commissioner and Seattle’s Mayor-elect, Paul Schell. Ms. Miller knows what kinds of qualities she wants in Schell's replacement, and hopes to find the right person to fill his shoes.

Just by sitting and talking with Paige Miller, you can tell she is someone who is very enthusiastic about her job, as well as one who puts her time and energy into what she does. She takes a personal interest in her work, and that is the sign of a person who is very dedicated to her duties as well as the responsibilities and rewards that come with it. Seattle couldn't ask for a better person for the job.
