Mr. Choi is a Global Logistics Planning Team Manager for LG Electronics. What does that mean?

LG Electronics is a Korean company that manufactures appliances such as microwave ovens and vacuum cleaners; monitors, such as TV’s or monitors for your computer, including some of the new, high-tech plasma and flat-screen monitors; and electronic items such as CD-ROM and DVD drives. Once these things are manufactured, someone has to get them to stores around the world where they can be sold. And that’s what Mr. Choi does.

He decides the best way to ship LG’s products to different places. That often means he has to do a lot of research to find the quickest and cheapest way to get his products from one place to another. He probably needs to know a lot about geography to do his job well. It wouldn’t do to accidentally ship a load of microwaves to the wrong place or send them to a lot of other ports first before getting them where they’re supposed to be.

Once he’s settled on a shipper, Mr. Choi has to deal with all the “logistics” or details of shipping. He has to make sure his products will clear “Customs” in the country they’re being shipped to. He has to make arrangements with truckers to get his products from the seaport to a warehouse or store. He has to deal with the people and businesses in the other country that want to buy his products to make sure that he gets them exactly what they want and that he delivers their goods to the right place.
