Boomerang Box Exhibit

West Seattle Herald, 10/8/97

The Boomerang Box Exhibit — a show of student "postage stamp" designs — will grace the walls of the Capers in the West Seattle Junction until Oct. 20.

The Boomerang Box is a 40-foot cargo container decorated with greetings from West Seattle and 70 oversized postage stamps designed last spring by West Seattle school students.

Starting in late October, students and teachers will follow the box's six-month expedition to Japan, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and other Asian ports to learn about the countries' current issues and jobs related to world trade. Project information is accessible through www.apl.com/boomerangbox on the web.

Capers is hosting a reception for the student artists 6-8 p.m. Oct. 9 at the store, 4521 California Ave. S.W.

Reception proceeds benefit Sound Schools, a nonprofit coalition of public schools — West Seattle High, Madison Middle, and Cooper, Concord, High Point and Pathfinder Elementary schools — which produced the art.
