If you ever wondered about the ocean journey's
those big bulk cargo containers take, here's a chance to go along for the ride.

This container's oceanic odyssey will be tracked by school kids in Seattle who provided its colorful decorations.
| A bunch of Seattle school children, with support from the Port of Seattle and American President Lines, will be following a single
40-foot ocean container as it zig zags across the Pacific Ocean not just any container,
but one that has been emblazoned with 70 oversized scenes of Seattle that were created by
the students.
The students and anybody else will be able to monitor the container's
progress on a Web site, which will include the ship the container is aboard, a diary, and
maps of its travels. The Web site for the container can be found at http://www.apl.com/boomerangbox.
The container sets sail on a westbound APL ship on Oct. 23, and will shuttle around the
Pacific for a year, said port spokesman Mike Merritt. The project was conceived to
commemorate Global Gateway North, the $270 million Terminal 5 project being built at the
port. |
