Unique look at international trade

Metropolitan King County Council Regional Agenda, 11/97

A new and innovative public-private partnership known as the "Boomerang Box" will use the Internet to help teach students around the world about international trade.

Greg Nickels
Councilmember Greg Nickels
The Boomerang Box, a project spearheaded by Councilmember Greg Nickels, is a cargo container decorated with designs created by Puget Sound area students which will travel from the Port of Seattle to major Asia Pacific ports. Students from around the world will be able to follow the Boomerang Box via the Internet and learn information about the countries and ports the container visits, the goods it carriers, and the logistics of shipping goods.

The Boomerang Box website is located at: www.apl.com/boomerangbox and features interactive maps and weekly "trade topics" with study questions students can use to learn about trade.

The Boomerang Box is also designed as a forum in which teachers and schools can share ideas, start pen pal exchanges and share the progress they've made in their classrooms with others around the world.

The Boomerang Box is a unique partnership bringing together international shipping giant APL the Port of Seattle, King County and schools throughout the Puget Sound region.
