Boomerang Box Begins Yearlong World Voyage

Daily Shipping News, 4/21/98

The Boomerang Box is returning to the United States on April 21st and will be greeted by students from Holy Rosary School in West Seattle who will gather at Norvanco International’s warehouse in Kent to welcome the box and watch as it is loaded with toys. The Boomerang Box will also be welcomed by the students of Pathfinder Elementary School in Seattle. They will watch the cargo container on its way to the rail yard to begin its cross-country trip. The Boomerang Box is a 40-foot cargo container, painted by Seattle school children, that traveled the Pacific Ocean carrying real cargo for real shipping line customers. Its travels were tracked on its own Web site, and as students followed the route of the Boomerang Box they were introduced to geography, current international trade topics, and profiles of jobs that support international trade. Each week, students logged on to learn where the Boomerang Box was, what goods it was carrying, and where it was going next. The class tracked the expedition on a map and learned about the country it was visiting.
