APL Brings World Class Act to Town

Transferring one of the world’s biggest touring shows across the Atlantic is no circus act.

After world famous international circus troupe, Cirque du Soleil completed its successful tour of the Saltimbanco show across Europe, it needed to head to its next tour stop – Mexico, and APL was on hand to do the job.

The shipment of time sensitive, complex cargo like this hinges on dependable service, accurate documentation and excellent transfer of information.

Monique Huiskes, the senior sales representative at APL Netherlands who secured the booking said, “At APL we take pains to understand the special requirements for each cargo. In this case, it was absolutely necessary for us to ensure that the equipment remains intact during the journey.”

“The sets and equipment need to be in pristine condition when they are used, to ensure the safety of the 150 specialists and 55 performers on stage. Just as important is the fact that show dates were confirmed, and with the short lead time for the complex set-up of the show, it was imperative that we identified the quickest and most reliable service,” Monique says.

Ten forty-foot containers filled with stage equipment began the first leg of the journey to Mexico from France. With millions of dollars at stake, tight schedules and full houses waiting for them, the logistics team absolutely must deliver.

“Our experience from working on the export of stage equipment for a number of music and theatre shows is pivotal to handling time-sensitive shipments like this. So it’s not surprising that we were approached to handle the shipping and cargo management services for Cirque du Soleil,” Monique says.

The stage equipment was moved from Le Havre, France straight to New York. From New York, the shipment was moved to Mexico by land.

The equipment arrived safely in time for the set-up required by the circus and the show went on to packed theatres across Mexico.
