Mandatory requirement for Cargo Control Numbers - Canada
In the interests of continuing smooth movement of your cargo, we are writing to let you know about a new mandatory requirement of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).
The Agency now requires that the Cargo Control Number (CCN) only consist of the Carrier Code and the Bill of Lading. This requirement will affect Carriers/NVO’s and Freight Forwarders who transmit data to the CBSA in the ANSI Format.
To meet this requirement APL will change the format of its CCN’s from 1 April 2006. From that date the format will be:
Carrier Code |
+ |
Bill of Lading |
9234 |
|
123456789 |
CCN’s provided to NVO’s and freight Forwarders who file their Supplementary Reports (S10) directly to CBSA will reflect this change. The CCN will be provided to the NVO’s and Freight Forwarders at the time of booking. Please note that the CBSA will reject Supplementary Reports (S10) that are filed without the new CCN format.

or make further enquiries with the CBSA at the email address: aci@cbsa-asfc.gc.ca
