Subcontinent Express Serves Fast-Growing India

APL's New SSX Service

APL's New SSX Service
One of the industry's fastest
direct connections between
Singapore, Sri Lanka and the
Indian west coast port of Nhava Sheva

08 Mar 2004 - Over the past decade, India's economic growth has been second only to that other Asian economic powerhouse, China. Today, India is one of the world's most attractive locations for companies seeking to source, produce and, increasingly, sell their products. In response to this burgeoning demand, APL has further enhanced its India coverage with the launch of a brand new, weekly service - the Singapore Subcontinent Express (SSX) (PDF Link).

The SSX provides one of the industry's fastest direct connections between Singapore, Sri Lanka and the Indian west coast port of Nhava Sheva, which is the gateway to rapidly expanding industries such as consumer electronics and the automotive sector.

China and North Asia-based companies are the main suppliers of these industries, and demand for their products has been steadily increasing, aided by India's decision to reduce import duty on a wide range of products.

The SSX also provides benchmark transit times for cargoes originating in Japan, South Korea, South East Asia, Taiwan and China, whose trade with the Indian Subcontinent is growing fast.

The new service complements our highly successful India America Express (IAX) , and also connects to APL's global network via the key hub port of Singapore.

Above all, the launch of the SSX illustrates APL's continued commitment to a region where we have been a leader for more than 30 years.
