Partnerships

At APL, we are working hard, alongside environmental agencies, regulators, governments, flag state and port authorities, service providers and customers, to address our environmental impact.

Our company works with the following organizations and regulatory bodies:

World Shipping Council works with legislators, appropriate government agencies and international organizations on environmental issues, and focuses specifically on the areas of vessel air emissions, ballast water management, and the protection of North Atlantic Right Whales and coral reefs.

Clean Cargo Working Group, set up by Business for Social Responsibility, develops voluntary guidelines and metrics aimed at improving freight transport’s performance in environmental sustainability. By taking a cooperative, pan-industry approach, it helps to promote environmental stewardship and sustainability in a competitive market.

Singapore Shipping Association cooperates with governmental and non-governmental organizations to promote freedom of the sea, safety at sea and to protect the marine environment. It addresses technical, safety, environmental and training issues and proposals of various industry bodies including the International Maritime Organization and the International Labor Organization.

Pacific Merchant Shipping Association promotes policies to minimize the environmental impacts of member operations. PMSA is engaged in ongoing efforts to improve air quality in cooperation with port authorities, local, state, federal and international regulatory agencies, and public officials.

North American Marine Environment Protection Association operates as a voluntary, non-profit and non-governmental organization committed to preserving the marine environment through educating seafarers, port communities and children about the need, and strategies, for protecting this important global resource.

International Maritime Organization is the specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for establishing and maintaining the legal framework governing the safety, security, efficiency and environmental performance of the international shipping industry.

Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore partners industry and other agencies to enhance safety, security and environmental protection in Singapore waters port operations. It is also the National Maritime Representative.

US Environmental Protection Agency leads the environmental science, research, education and assessment efforts of the US. Its mission is to protect human health and to safeguard the natural environment – air, water and land – upon which life depends.

California Air Resources Board promotes and protects public health, welfare and ecological resources through the effective and efficient reduction of air pollutants while recognizing and considering the effects on the economy. The Board is a part of the California Environmental Protection Agency.

Bay Area Air Quality Management District
With a vision of maintaining a healthy breathing environment for every Bay Area resident, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District strives to be at the forefront of air quality improvement and pioneers new strategies to achieve healthy air and protect the climate.

South Coast Air Quality Management District is the air pollution control agency for all of California's Orange County and the urban portions of Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties, including the port of Los Angeles. Coalition for Responsible Transportation is an industry-led organization that aims to facilitate the implementation of practical and responsible solutions to reduce truck pollution at U.S. ports without disrupting the flow of commerce.

National Environment Agency is the leading public organization responsible for improving and sustaining a clean and green environment in Singapore. The NEA develops and spearheads environmental initiatives and programs through its partnership with the people, public and private sectors. It is committed to motivating every individual to take up environmental ownership and to care for the environment as a way of life.
