Just as early
expansion set the tone for historic firsts over the course of the
companys 150-year history, APLs current approach to
new markets brings businesses closer to one another.
Robert Dollars
legacy of investing in each country served by APL continues with
new additions to an expansive transportation network. A decade and
a half ago, APL was one of the first transportation providers to
see the strategic importance of a strong presence in the Middle
East. Today, the company is a household name in many countries in
the region.

Expansion into
other key markets has continued. APLs entry into the growing
Latin America trade has provided manufacturers and retailers with
the kind of highly dependable service they need in order to control
the economics of their businesses. Most recently, the companys
new trans-Atlantic service closed the final East-West gap in its
global network.
And two recent
events have played a key role in extending the companys reach:
APLs 1997 merger with Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) and its 1998
entry into the New World Alliance.
The APL-NOL
merger has created one of the worlds largest and best-integrated
companies involved in global transportation and related services.
And by collaborating with alliance partners to coordinate vessel
schedules, share vessel space, and provide access to each others
terminals and equipment, APL is poised to offer even more comprehensive
coverage of the worlds markets to its customers. |
