Alliances
Forging alliances for the new millennium.

Enduring Relationships

To create the kind of ultramodern transportation network that ensures a continuous flow of products, APL and its predecessors have forged long-lasting relationships with many different kinds of industries — from today’s giant, multinational retailers to key vendors like North America’s railroads.

But APL’s business relationships have also included some surprising partners. For example, the company has come to the aid of the U.S. government during wartime and has helped governments around the world improve their countries’ transportation infrastructures.

More recently, APL and the Port of Seattle have been working with local schools in an effort to promote a greater understanding of international trade — a partnership that represents a refreshing step into the future. The project involves using the Internet to track the travels of an APL container nicknamed the “Boomerang Box,” and many classrooms around the world now participate.

The future: full visibility to every shipment.

Finally, APL’s 1997 partnership with Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) has played a key role in extending the company’s reach. The APL-NOL merger has created one of the world’s largest and best-integrated companies involved in global transportation and related services. The merger has also enabled APL to offer even more comprehensive coverage of the world’s markets to its customers.

Add to this the strength of APL’s people, who are logistics experts in every mode of transport, and APL is no longer a traditional company with a noble past. It is a modern organization clearly facing the future — and another 150 years of shaping international trade.
