Trans-Pacific Eastbound Market – Bunker Adjustment Factor (BAF) Update Effective 1 May 2020

Please be informed that effective 1 May 2020, there will be changes in the application of Trans-Pacific Eastbound Bunker Adjustment Factor (BAF) – also known as Bunker Surcharge (BSC).

The changes are as follows:

BAF Quantum
- BAF quantums for 40’ standard and high cube will be equalized.
- 2 sets of BAF quantums will be maintained for discharge via:

  • U.S. West Coast ports, Alaksa ports, Vancouver, B.C. and Prince Rupert, B.C.
  • U.S. Atlantic-Gulf Coast ports and Halifax, N.S.

- U.S. West Coast Inland BAF (IPI) will no longer be maintained and will be aligned to U.S. West Coast BAF
- The quantums and service scope for BAF applicable from 1 May 2020 till 30 June 2020 as stated below:

Origin: Asia, Australia, East Africa, Middle East, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, West Asia
Destination: Canada, USA (except Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands), Hawaii
Discharge via: West Coast port, Alaska ports, Hawaii, Vancouver, B.C. and Prince Rupert, B.C.

Implementation
- Applicable to all new contracts effective 1 May 2020 as well as existing contract with validity beyond 1 July 2020.
- Contracts which are valid between 1 May 2020 and 30 June 2020 will maintain current bunker surcharge application.
