Target honors APL and APL Logistics for Second Year in a Row

Target has named APL Logistics its consolidator of the year and has given APL the award for service of excellence

Singapore, 8 June 2006 – Target Corporation has named APL Logistics its Consolidator of the Year and given the Vice President’s Award for service excellence to sister company APL Ltd.

Both honors were announced at Target’s annual Transportation Awards ceremonies in Minneapolis.

It was the second time in two years that Target has recognized APL Logistics. Last year Target gave the leading global logistics provider its Partnership of the Year award.

“Recognition from one of the great brands in retailing is certainly satisfying,” said Brian Lutt, President of APL Logistics. “But what’s important to us is our relationship with Target. Winning the award two years in a row indicates that the relationship remains strong.”

Added Bob Sappio, Senior Vice President of the Transpacific Trade at APL: “We’ve built our company on superior customer service. To be singled out for service by such an influential customer as Target confirms that our approach is the right one.”

APL Logistics has been providing origin cargo management services for Target Corporation since 1987, helping to manage overseas vendors, manage in-transit inventory and provide global supply chain information.

Global container shipping leader APL has just signed a contract extension with Target to continue transporting cargo to the U.S. from the retailing giant’s Asian and Latin American suppliers.

Further expanding their relationship, Target has joined with APL in an effort to gain federal government support for improvements to the nation’s aging freight transport system. “This issue is vital to our nation’s welfare,” said Sappio, “and we appreciate the partnership of Target and its industry peers in helping us bring this message to Washington.”

The awards from Target are the latest in a series of honors presented to APL and APL Logistics in 2006. The list includes:

  • General Motors Global Supplier of the Year: APL Logistics
  • NETGEAR Best Logistics Partner (Runner-up): APL Logistics
  • Owens Corning Transportation System Excellence Award: APL
  • Baxter Healthcare Supplier of the Year: APL
  • Limited Best Customer Service Award: APL
  • Asian Freight/Supply Chain Award, Best Shipping Line Transpacific: APL
  • Marine Digest Best Overall Customer Service: APL
