APL launches all-water North China-US East Coast service

Service provides greater service reliability and speed to market

Shanghai, 24 August 2006 – Container transportation leader APL has launched a new all-water service that will provide regular links between key North China manufacturing centres and the United States East Coast.

The East Coast 3 (EC3) complements APL’s other Asia-US East Coast services the Atlantic Pacific Express (APX) and New York Express (NYX).

The EC3 connects with an extensive intermodal network via the Shanghai gateway, which expands service coverage to China’s main manufacturing centres in North and Central China, including the fast-growing Yangtze River Delta.

The weekly service operates on a 56-day rotation and offers some of the industry’s most competitive transit times. For example, sailing time from Shanghai to Manzanillo in Panama is just 23 days; it takes 27 days to reach Savannah; and 30 days to Norfolk. Westbound, it takes just 24 days to sail from Norfolk to Shanghai. Mid-week cut-off times also offer customers increased service flexibility.

APL Greater China President, Dan Ryan, said: “The EC3 comes at a perfect time because space on the all-water North China-US East trade has been limited due to continuing strong demand. The EC3 complements APL’s comprehensive North China service profile to provide importers and exporters with the speed, reliability and flexibility they need.”

The EC3 port rotation is Shanghai, Chiwan, Shekou, and Hong Kong, Norfolk and Savannah. Manzanillo is served on the eastbound leg.
