NOL and APL Receive Top Industry Accolades

NOL Group recognised for Ethical Responsibility and APL is named Asia’s Shipping Line of the Year

Singapore, October 6, 2006 – Leading global transportation and logistics group, Neptune Orient Lines (NOL), and its container shipping subsidiary, APL, this week received top prizes at the Asia Logistics Awards 2006.

NOL was lauded for Ethical Responsibility and APL was named Shipping Line of the Year at a gala ceremony in Singapore attended by more than 300 senior representatives of the global logistics and freight transportation industries.

NOL’s supply chain management business APL Logistics was also a finalist in the Seafreight Forwarder and 3PL of the Year categories.

The annual awards are based on votes cast by the readers of leading supply chain management publication Lloyd’s Freight Transport Buyer Asia, as well as the Asian readerships of Containerisation International and International Freighting Weekly. Once the votes were cast, an independent panel of judges chose the award finalists and the ultimate winners.

APL CEO, Ron Widdows, who only last week received the prestigious National Transportation Award from the US National Defense Transportation Association, said: “To receive this award is gratifying as it is based on the votes of many customers and industry peers. It confirms that APL’s global commitment to making customers’ transportation and supply chain management needs our top priority continues to pay off.”

When choosing the Shipping Line of the Year award, the judges acknowledged several criteria, including schedule reliability, value for money, size of network, level of customer service, quality and range of logistics services, as well as the number of new products and services launched in past 12 months.

David Goodwin, Vice President, Corporate Affairs received the Ethical Responsibility award on behalf of NOL. He said: “This award recognises that NOL is a global business providing socially useful services that not only contribute to the business success of our customers but also to the economic well being of communities and whole countries.”

Ethical Responsibility nominees had to be proven leaders in corporate ethics and able to show social responsibility that demonstrates “sincerity and vibrancy”. They also had to demonstrate a strong recent track record of profitability.

The two Asia Logistics Awards follow NOL last month being named Ship Owner of the Year at Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority International Maritime Awards.
