APL enhances Vietnam service offering

New service connects Vietnam with global markets via key Asian relay hubs

Singapore, 13 May 2008: Global container shipping leader, APL, has enhanced its service offering to and from the fast-growing Vietnam market with the launch of a new feeder service between Vietnam, Taiwan and Singapore.

The new service, which is called the Southern Vietnam Express service (SVX), will provide two more weekly departures from Ho Chi Minh City and complement APL’s three existing weekly feeder services from Vietnam. The enhanced service offering provides shippers with some of the fastest transit times in the Transpacific to the West and East Coast of the United States.

Bob Sappio, APL Senior Vice President for Transpacific trade, said: “The SVX provides our customers with the service reliability and flexibility they need as global demand for Vietnam’s products continues to grow. Calls at Kaohsiung and Singapore also gives our customers access to APL’s linehaul service connections to destinations throughout the US and Europe”.

The SVX is jointly operated by APL and Hanjin, with each carrier deploying a 700 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) vessel. Port rotation is: Ho Chi Minh City, Kaohsiung, Ho Chi Minh City, Singapore and Ho Chi Minh City.
