NOL Group a Double Winner at Lloyd’s List Asia Awards

NOL Group CEO is Newsmaker of the Year and APL named Best Container Shipping Line

Singapore, Oct. 16, 2008 - Neptune Orient Lines (NOL), the global container shipping, terminals and logistics group, was a double award winner at the 10th Lloyd's List Asia Awards.

Group CEO Ron Widdows was named the first ever “Newsmaker of the Year” – one of the evening's top accolades. The recipient is chosen by the senior editorial staff of leading industry newspaper Lloyd's List from the shipping, insurance or energy industries. The winner is deemed to have made the greatest impact on the development of shipping and world trade over the past year.

Lloyd's List said Mr Widdows’ award was "richly deserved", adding that "he has encouraged greater transparency in the industry and actively lobbied on its behalf for greater recognition at governmental level".

NOL's container shipping business APL was also named "Asian Container Shipping Line of the Year". This award is given to the Asian shipping line that the award judges assess to have been best in class in the provision of on time and cost efficient container shipping services, as well as innovation in customer service and offerings within Asia.

Mr Widdows said: "These awards are a testament to the talent and dedication of everyone at NOL. Our ability to go the extra mile and deliver value to our customers and shareholders will be further tested as we navigate through these challenging times for our industry."

NOL Group businesses were also finalists in the Ship Manager, Training & Crewing, and Logistics categories of the Lloyd’s List Asia Awards.
