Singapore, London,
Oakland CA, October 23, 2002 – Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) today announced
the appointment of Cynthia A. (Cindy) Stoddard as Group Chief Information Officer.
Stoddard is currently
CIO of APL, NOL’s Liner business. She will replace Hans Hickler, who has been
promoted to CEO of NOL’s supply chain management business, APL Logistics.
Stoddard will also
continue her role as CIO of APL, sitting on the Executive Committee of the Liner
company. Previously she was VP/CIO of Enterprise Shared Services in the information
technology division of the Group, with responsibility for all Group information
technology support such as computer operations, telecommunications, networking,
messaging, security, systems architecture and database management.
Said NOL CEO and President Flemming Jacobs, “Cindy Stoddard has a proven record
as a senior IT professional with more than 20 years experience in the industry,
specializing in the transportation and logistics field. She brings to her new
role strong technical expertise combined with in-depth knowledge of the business
and proven ability to lead innovation that provides IT solutions tightly targeted
on customers’ needs.
“I will be looking to her to build on the IT leadership the Group currently enjoys
within the industry – leadership that not only provides the tools that make it
easy for our customers to do business with us, but that helps us, and our customers,
manage costs through improved work processes.”
“This is a challenging time for our industry,” Stoddard said, “but it is the very
time that effective, innovative and creative IT can make a real difference. We
will continue to invest in the people and the processes that allow us to maintain
our competitive edge, not just as best in industry, but best in class.”
APL and APL Logistics were this month again named in the top 100 of prestigious
magazine Information Week’s Top 500 innovative users of technology, over the past
three years climbing from 456th place in 1999 to 57th place this year, ranking
ahead of such companies as Intel, IBM, Cisco and Unisys.
“We have set ourselves high standards and high goals,” Stoddard said, “and as
we reach them we set the bar even higher. We will continue to do so.”
Mr Jacobs said Stoddard would be ably supported by industry veteran Mike Moore,
the CIO of APL Logistics. Moore and Stoddard have worked closely together over
the past year as the respective IT leaders of the two businesses, he said, with
the two leaders’ skill sets complementing one another.
“Mike is committed to further developing the leading edge APL Logistics exception-based
tool, APLL See Change Services, and is focused on driving it to set the standard
for integrating data across all modes and providers along the supply chain,” Mr
Jacobs said. “This continues to be an important IT project, and the work that
Cindy and her team do will assist Mike in achieving his goals.”
Stoddard holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting, and graduated cum laude from
Western New England College. Her professional affiliations and memberships include
Delta Mu Delta, the professional fraternity of the National Honor Society and
the Council of Logistics Management.
