May, 2002 – APL was named International Ocean Carrier of the Year by Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. the world’s largest retailer.
Flemming R Jacobs, Group President and Chief Executive Officer of APL’s parent company, NOL Group, and Chief Executive Officer of APL said, “Our customers set aggressive targets and Wal-Mart is no exception. We welcome such challenges and continuously add our own. The whole team is proud to have met the challenges and won the award.”
Receiving the award, Ed Aldridge, APL Chief Operating Officer, said that everyone at APL was proud to be associated with Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.
“Being recognized for delivering service excellence on a global basis by the world’s largest retailer is significant,” he said. “By leveraging our people and our information technology, it is our constant goal to provide new value to customers like Wal-Mart.”
APL has been working closely with Wal-Mart for three years and provides services to Wal-Mart in 37 countries, shipping everything from electronic goods, footwear and garments, to household products and furniture.
APL provides customers around the world with container transportation services through a network combining high-quality intermodal operations with state-of-the-art information technology. APL is the container transportation arm of Neptune Orient Lines; a global transportation and logistics company engaged in shipping and related businesses.
