Singapore,
Oakland CA, London, 13 March, 2003 – Global container transportation company APL
today announced the appointment of senior executive Goh Teik Poh to head its Operations
and Network division.
The position was formerly held by Ron Widdows, who was appointed Acting CEO of APL
earlier this year.
Mr Widdows said, “Teik Poh brings more than two decades of experience to his new role
as Senior Vice President of Operations and Network. Most recently he headed global
equipment management, where he has proven to be a capable and efficient leader with
strong strategic planning skills, playing an important role in improving APL’s operational
productivity.”
The functional responsibility for liner operations globally will be held by Mr Goh,
and he will have specific accountability for directing linehaul and feeder operations,
global equipment and global terminals as well as network planning and analysis.
Mr Goh said he was looking forward to taking up this new challenge and helping the
company in its drive to return to profitability. “With the renewed focus on efficiency
and cost reduction, Operations and Network have a vital role to play in helping to
deliver the targets set for this year,” he said.
Mr Goh began his career with APL’s parent company, Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) in 1980,
serving at sea for five years before beginning his shore-side career. He managed the
company’s business in India for several years and then made the move to the operations
side of the business where he has led a successful team that has brought about dramatic
improvements in equipment asset utilization and cost containment.
Mr Goh has worked in India, Singapore and the United States, and holds a BSc (Hons)
in Maritime Commerce from University of Wales’ Cardiff College, UK, and a Master of
Science degree in Transportation from Northwestern University, USA.
In his new role, he will continue to be based in Singapore and will report directly
to the CEO of APL.
