APL Appoints New Japan Managing Director
Singapore, 18 June 2004 - APL, a global leader in global container transportation, has appointed Koichi Maeda Managing Director of its Japan business. From July 1, Mr Maeda, who joined APL in 1987, will oversee all aspects of APL's operations in Japan from the company's regional base in Tokyo. Mr Maeda was most recently Director of APL Japan's Customer Facing Group. His career includes senior positions in human resources, marketing, business planning and systems co-ordination. APL CEO Ron Widdows said, "Maeda-san's knowledge of the Japan and North Asia markets is unparalleled and his experience across a range of operational and managerial positions makes him an ideal candidate to manage APL's Japan business. "I am sure that under his guidance we will continue to exceed our customers' expectations in one of our largest and most important single-country operations." Mr Maeda replaces Jim McAdam, who has been promoted to Senior Vice President for Business Solutions with APL's parent, Neptune Orient Lines (NOL), after five highly successful years in Japan. Before joining APL, Mr Maeda spent 15 years in senior engineering positions for a Japanese shipbuilding and engineering company. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Kyushu University.
