Barcelona, 4 Dec 2003 – Global container transportation provider APL has announced that its Mediterranean regional management will transfer from Genoa to Barcelona in a move to capitalise on the Spanish city’s excellent communications links and growing transportation and logistics community.
The decision follows the opening of APL Espana in Barcelona in July 2003 and the successful transition to a new representation structure in Spain.
Dave Appleton, APL President Europe, commented: “The decision to move our Mediterranean headquarters was driven by geographic reasons. Barcelona is very accessible from most European and international locations, it has a large and modern airport and is a thriving area of economic activity.”
Simon Trobe will oversee the Mediterranean regional functions in addition to his responsibilities as General Manager of APL Espana.
“The Mediterranean is emerging as one of the big European growth opportunities of the future,” said Dave Appleton. “The relocation continues our drive to position APL to take advantage of this growth.”
The Mediterranean regional team will share the office of APL Espana and the move should be complete by the end of the year.
