Singapore,
Singapore, March 20, 2003 – Global container transportation company APL was last night named “Best Transpacific Shipping Line” for 2003 at the Asian Freight & Supply Chain Awards (AFSCAs) at a gala ceremony attended by 350 industry leaders and customers.
The AFSCAs are organized by leading trade publication, Cargonews Asia. They are presented
to the outstanding achievers of the global transportation and logistics industries.
Winners of categories encompassing all major transportation and logistics sectors across Asia, Europe, the Middle East and North America were selected by votes cast by the readers of Cargonews Asia.
Collecting the award, Brian Lutt, APL’s President of Greater China, said: “The past 18 months have been among the toughest in liner shipping history. To win this award for the Transpacific, our most important trade, during this time is very special. Above all, it means we continue to distinguish ourselves in the minds of our customers, providing services above and beyond the simply ordinary.
“Providing comprehensive, quality services on the Transpacific is even more important today, particularly the eastbound leg from China where customer demand continues to grow, “ added Mr Lutt.
Cargonews Asia publisher and editor, Corey Bousen, said: “We have made significant changes to this year’s awards to better reflect the changing nature of the industries we report on. But one thing that never changes is quality, and APL has shown that even during tough times its high standards and premium service have never wavered.”
Cargonews Asia has previously recognized both APL and sister company APL Logistics (APLL) at these awards. In 2001, APL scooped the prize for Best Intra-Asia Shipping Line, while last year APLL received Best Sea Freight Forwarder and Best Multimodal Freight Forwarder.
