Singapore,
Oakland, CA., London, April 16, 2003 – Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG) has
presented its Global Ocean Carrier of the Year award to APL – for the fifth year

and Europe's largest.
The US$30 billion manufacturer said APL satisfies its commitments every day, which is the key to earning and retaining a customer's loyalty and respect.
"Philips is a large multinational company with multiple business units and demanding service requirements," said Paul van der Sanden, general manager of forwarding and distribution for Philips Electronics, N.V., headquartered in Amsterdam, Holland.
"APL has consistently provided us with consistent transportation reliability, excellent customer service, cutting-edge technology and a collaborative, partnership approach," he said.
Van der Sanden said APLs people work with Philips executives at every level to ensure that Philips business units around the world get high value for the money. He noted that service has remained high despite tough global economic conditions around the world.
APLs Executive Vice President for Sales, Marketing and Customer Support, Dan McHugh, said the company recognizes that a customer tendering large volumes of high-value, time-sensitive merchandise requires nothing less than consistent reliability and service. "This award is a real testament to the team effort of our people in sales, customer service, operations and at every level of management, all of whom are dedicated to meeting the often complex needs of multinational customers such as Philips, and keeping the commitments we have made to them.
“Having a deep understanding of Philips’ business needs is essential to be able to do the job well, and we, together with our sister company APL Logistics, are privileged to have a close relationship with Philips that allows us to work closely with them to provide a range of supply chain management services.”
The award, officially known as the "Philips Non-Product-Related Forwarding & Distribution 2002 Global Sea Freight Carrier of the Year Award," covers APL's service to Philips in every key trade lane, including the Trans-Pacific, Transatlantic, North-South America, Intra-Asia and Asia-Europe markets.
