APL COMPLETES EUROPEAN MANAGEMENT CHANGES

18 June 2002 – APL, the global container transportation provider, has finalised a series of senior management appointments in its European region. The changes bring new managing directors for the APL organisations in the UK, France and Germany, and two new vice presidents at the European headquarters in Uxbridge.

All the positions report to David Appleton, who took over as President, APL Europe from Ken Soerensen earlier this year. Mr Soerensen is now President of APL's Asia Region.

"These appointments highlight the depth of international talent within APL," commented Mr Appleton. "They reaffirm our commitment to attract, retain and develop a management team that is among the best in the transportation business."

In the UK, Peter Hall has been appointed Managing Director in succession to Ted Fordney, who has relocated to Singapore as Vice President of Sales, Customer Support and E Commerce. Mr Hall has been Director, Global Sales in Uxbridge since joining APL at the beginning of 2000. Previously he worked for 18 years with Hapag-Lloyd in a variety of sales management positions.

Moving into the Uxbridge office from the US to become Vice President Transatlantic Trade, Eric Mensing's 20-year career with APL has encompassed international management and sales positions in the US, Canada and the Middle East. He relocates from Washington, DC, where he was responsible for the US Government market including US Flag preference cargoes, worldwide projects and humanitarian aid.

Also moving to Uxbridge, Peter Jongepier was Managing Director of APL France and now becomes European regional Vice President Sales and Marketing. A Dutch national, Mr Jongepier has enjoyed a successful career with APL since 1995, before which he worked in marketing and pricing management for Sea-Land Service.

His replacement as Managing Director in France has been named as Bernard Mazuel. A highly experienced transport and logistics professional, Mr Mazuel has worked with Kuhne & Nagel, Lonrho Logistics and Danzas in France and Africa, as well as with leading French retailer Pomona, where he restructured their national warehousing and transportation network. Until recently he was a board member of the French Shippers' Council.

Completing the changes, Detlev Kerber has taken over as Managing Director of APL Germany from Dieter Naths, who has become Director, Global Sales for the German speaking countries. Prior to his appointment at the Hamburg-based organisation, Mr Kerber built up and led the Europe-Asia trade management team in Uxbridge.
