Singapore, 25
October, 2002 – NOL Group’s newly-christened APL Dalian was put to work immediately
this week as part of the company’s steps to maintain sailing schedules and restore
services for customers in the wake of the US West Coast ports shutdown earlier
this month.
The APL Dalian will then enter APL’s regular service network to the Indian Subcontinent
and ports in the Red Sea.

The APL Dalian,
the last of four sister vessels built by German shipyard Aker MTW for NOL’s global
container transportation business, APL, was christened by prominent Singapore
historian Dr Melanie Chew.
The vessel has a nominal capacity of 2500 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU).
Speaking at the christening in Singapore, NOL Group President and CEO Flemming
Jacobs said the deployment of the APL Dalian was an excellent example of the company’s
flexibility in meeting the needs of customers.
“She will be busy from the moment we name her,” Mr Jacobs said.
“As we work through the current industry downturn, we must continue to be quick
on our feet – using the creativity of our people, maintaining flexibility and
the ability to respond quickly to changing world circumstances.”
