Singapore, 21 February
2002 – APL has won the top two customer service excellence awards for both the
east and westbound trade lanes to the US and Europe presented by the Institute
of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) in Sri Lanka.
This is the first time the same container shipping line has won the awards for
both sectors.
The ICS awards are Sri Lanka’s highest shipping award honors and they are decided
by customers. They are based on information gathered by ICS’s annual market survey,
which asks Sri Lanka’s shippers to rank levels of service they receive from their
carriers in the areas of sales and support.
The Sri Lankan Minister of Ports and Shipping, Hon. Rauff Hakeem, presented the
awards to APL Sri Lanka Managing Director Maurice McKeating at the recent ICS
award ceremony in Colombo.
“We are truly inspired by this recognition of our efforts in Sri Lanka and thank
our customers for their support,” said McKeating. “Best of all is that, since
our customers decide these awards, they are telling us that we are providing them
with the services they value most.”
This year marks the fourth consecutive year that APL has received an ICS award,
winning either the Europe or Transpacific sectors each time – the only carrier
to do so.
“We make every effort to make sure our customers receive high quality services
and we always try to go the extra mile,” McKeating said. “We are committed to
facilitating global trade for our customers, and having a strong presence in markets
like Sri Lanka is just one way of doing that. Another is developing innovative
IT products and services that meet the needs of our customers, whether they are
in Sri Lanka or anywhere else in the world.”
The Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers is an international body for those engaged
in all aspects of the shipping business.
APL has received several notable awards over the past six months, including the
Best Intra-Asia Shipping Line Award from CargoNews Asia, an Australian Shipping
& Transport Award for APL’s Wallaby Express service, and the Customer Service
Award for the Asia-Europe trade from Lloyd’s Loading List. APL also picked-up
several major technology awards. It’s website, www.apl.com, has been named one
of best B2B sites by BtoB Magazine and APL is in the top 100 of InformationWeek
magazine’s top 500 IT companies – the only global transportation and logistics
company on the list.
About APL APL provides customers around the world with container transportation
services through a network combining high-quality intermodal operations with state-of-the-art
information technology. APL is the container transportation arm of Singapore-based
Neptune Orient Lines (NOL), a global transportation and logistics company engaged
in shipping and related businesses.
