European Community - Authorised Economic Operator

Overview

The European Commission (EC) - Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) program was first introduced in January 2008. The program was created to ensure a safer and more secure end-to-end supply chain entering or leaving the European Union (EU). According to the EC, reliable traders that comply with criteria and offer a high degree of security in respect to their role in the supply chain, may be granted AEO status.

AEO is not mandatory but many AEOs may prefer to work with other AEOs. Also, according to the EC, traders granted the AEO status receive additional customs simplifications benefits than non AEO traders. AEO Status is for businesses that are actively involved in customs operations and international trade, including shipping companies established outside the EC. APL is pleased to announce that it actively participates in various EU AEO programs.
