European Community - Authorised Economic Operator

Overview

The European Commission (EC) - Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) program was created to ensure a safer and more secure end-to-end supply chain entering or leaving the European Union (EU). According to the EC, reliable traders that comply with criteria and offer a high degree of security, with respect to their role in the supply chain, may be granted AEO status and receive additional customs simplifications benefits than non AEO traders.

AEO is not mandatory but many AEOs may prefer to work with other AEOs. AEO Status is for businesses that are actively involved in customs operations and international trade, including shipping companies established outside the EC.  Both APL and APL Logistics participate in various EU AEO programs.
