Special Recommendations

To ensure the successful delivery of your reefer cargo, we have prepared a list of procedures to guide you, from the moment you make a reefer booking right through to delivery at destination.

When placing a booking, the following information are to be provided:

  • Nature of the merchandise, quantity, weight
  • Place of origin and final destination
  • Type of packaging being used (crate, drum, pallet, etc)
  • Temperature required during the transport (specify °C or °F and + or -)
  • Specific requirements (multi-temperatures, cold treatment, controlled atmosphere, etc.)

  • Designed, manufactured and stowed in order to ensure optimal protection of the cargo
  • Able to withstand repeated handling without damage in diverse and varied environments
  • Able to withstand the vertical pressures resulted from piling up crates/cartons
  • Allow good air circulation throughout the container for optimum temperature control

PTI is a detailed inspection of the container done by our reefer technicians to ensure that the container is clean, and that the system is in perfect working condition.

Specific PTI is performed for pharmaceutical bookings.

To safely transport refrigerated cargo, produce must be pre-cooled to its optimum temperature before being loaded into a reefer container.

To avoid problems associated with condensation, pre-cooling is not recommended except when stuffing is done in cold store room.

Loading and Stowage.

The loading and stowage of the goods inside the container are to be done by the shipper.

Main points to note:

  • The cargo must cover the entire surface of the container floor as all reefer containers are made with bottom-air delivery. If this cannot be done, other materials such as cardboard should be used to cover the remaining container floor.
  • Cargo can be palletized or in bulk. In both cases, solid block stowage is preferred. No space should be left between the cartons and the container walls. In doing this, air is forced up through the cargo and the entire floor space will be covered and refrigerated.
  • Extra care should be taken to load the pallets in order to avoid damaging the baffle plate at the bottom of the container.

Storage Conditions Guide

A comprehensive but non-exhaustive guide on the parameters and recommended settings for optimal storage conditions for different types of reefer commodities (temperature, volume of replacement air, etc.) is available for our customers’ easy reference.
