Terminal Congestion in Bayonne, New Jersey
Due to additional ships calling the Global Terminal, New Jersey (GCT Bayonne), turn-times have been affected, resulting in APL containers dwelling at the terminal. In view of the congestion and ongoing construction projects at the compound, truckers have been refusing to go to the terminal.
The management team at GCT Bayonne has taken the following corrective measures to combat and ease the congestion:
- - Gate opening time: Gate opening hours extended to weekends
- - Alternate space: Additional gate at Millennium Terminal on 6 December 2015, Sunday to dray 126 imports and 94 exports
- - Terminal: Rail Mounted Gantry (RMG) maintenance delayed to January 2016
- - Terminal entrance: Exit 14A widened, resulting in traffic flow improvement outside GCT Bayonne and significantly reduced chances of traffic backing-up
GCT Bayonne is also planning to roll out the appointment system in Q1, 2016 which will regulate the flow of trucks, hence, will shorten truck turn-times and optimize productivity.
APL is working closely with Global Terminal to monitor the situation closely. We will continue to keep you apprised of the situation.
